Greenbriar PTO

1. When does the Greenbriar PTO meet?

2. What does the PTO do?

The PTO provides activities and services to enhance the school’s curriculum and social environment, such as Art Adventure, Story Readers, School Supplies, County Fair, Greyhound Games and much more.

3. How can I get involved and how much time would I need to commit?

There are many ways you can be involved in the PTO, from helping with fundraising or organizing school wide events, to helping at the bookfair or at one of our family socials. You can commit as much time as is comfortable for you.

4. Can I bring my younger children to the meetings?

Absolutely! Younger children are always welcome!

Greenbriar School

1. When is the first day of school?

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 23 for grades 1-5. Students will attend from 8:50-12:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24 is the first day of school for kindergartners and the first full day of school for grades 1-5.

2. When does the school day start and end?

8:55 am to 3:15 pm are the hours for students. The first bell rings at 8:50 am.

3. Can school personnel provide my child with a change of plans for after school?

Social arrangements and plans for after school may only be made at home between parent and child. Only in a true emergency situation should the school staff be asked to deliver a change of after school plans.

Please understand that these guidelines help reduce distractions for students and staff.

4. At which temperature do the children stay indoors for recess in the winter?

If the temperature or wind chill is ten degrees or below, children stay indoors.

5. When is the last day of the 2010-2011 school year, since we've had two school closings due to weather conditions? When is dismissal that day?

The last day of school is June 9, assuming there are no more school closings this school year. Elementary school students will be dismissed at 9:15 a.m.

KidCare

1. What is KidCare?

KidCare is before and after school care that is provided at Greenbriar, Meadowbrook & Westmoor. Children can be scheduled to come on a regular basis, or may attend on occasion for "drop in" care. Please, all children must be registered in advance in order to attend. While registration is online, once the school year has begun, you must contact Director Melissa Patricelli to see about availability.

2. When is KidCare Open?

KidCare is open 7:00-8:30am(8:40 at MB) and 3:15-6:30pm on regular school days. On half days, kids can attend from 12:00-6:00pm.
There is NO KidCare on full days off, summer vacation or while the regular school day is in session(no full day Kindergarten program).

3. How much does KidCare cost?

Cost for the program varies according to how often your child will come. Payment is required monthly and goes from Sept- May.
Charges are as follows(monthly fee): Mornings: 1 day/wk:$19 2days/wk: $38 3 days/wk: $57
4 days/wk: $76 5 days/wk:$95
Afternoons: 1 day/wk: $38 2days/wk: $76 3 days/wk: $114
4 days/wk: $152 5 days/wk: $190

4. What is drop in care?

Sometimes a child does not need to attend regularly, but will occasionally need to come early or stay late after school. In these cases, you may register your child and purchase "drop in" care. We recommend purchasing a few at a time, as there is a separate $5 registration fee. Cost for this service is $6 for AM and $12 for PM.
When your child needs to come, please contact director Melissa Patricelli via phone or email to confirm availability. We also ask that you send a note to school if you child is staying after for drop in. Thanks for your cooperation!

5. What is Enrichment?

Each semester, we offer classes that your child(grades 1-5 only, sorry no K) can take after school. The classes are taught by outside organizations and the classes run for 8 week sessions (from 3:15-4:25). Registration for Fall takes place in August while you may register for Winter classes after Thanksgiving break. Families are notified via email and phone when registration has begun. Students must register at their home school for enrichment classes. We may be adding a shorter spring session for 2011- stay tuned!!

Meadowbrook PTO

1. What does the money raised by the PTO support?

The money raised by the PTO goes to fund various programs, including: field trips for every grade, the Science and Art fairs, Teacher Appreciation activities, teacher-requested grants for classroom programs, school assemblies, the student-led school newspaper, Field Days food and the obstacle course, disability awareness programming, art enrichment programming, the ice cream social, family Bingo Night, 5th Grade breakfast and awards, 5th Grade Year Book and more.

2. When does Meadowbrook PTO meet?

Typically, the Meadowbrook PTO meets on the third Wednesday of every month, at 9:15 am.

3. I work during the day but would like to volunteer at school. Are there any events at night or on the weekend?

There are a number of evening volunteer commitments, such as helping to staff the Book Fair.

There are also many opportunities that offer the chance for volunteers to complete work at home on a flexible timeframe, such as laying out the Meadowbrooklet.

Meadowbrook School

Meadowbrook students who ride the bus are dimissed at 3:10 pm, and the bell rings for all other students at 3:15 pm.

Music Parents Club

1. What does the Music Parents Club do?

The Music Parents Club provides enrichment activities for all of the co-curricular music programs in District 28.

This includes bringing in professional musicians for clinics, attending professional performances, providing meals during tours, and uniforms for the highest level performers.

2. How does the club raise funds for these programs?

The annual Wreath and Coffee sale is our only fundraiser. This allows us to provide programs throughout the year for the students.

3. Do I have to commit a lot of time to help the club out?

No, the Music Parents Club has many volunteer positions that require minimal amounts of time and other positions that are more in-depth. Come to our monthly meetings and see for yourself.

We meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 11:45 am and our meetings are open to all music parents – there is no membership fee or form.

1. My child is struggling, who should I contact?

If you haven’t already, you should contact your child’s teacher first. A child’s teacher is usually the best professional to speak to about specific academic concerns. They have the greatest knowledge of the curriculum and understanding of the skills demonstrated by the children in their class.
